The 19th Judicial Circuit's District Attorney's Office now
has a rest stop on the information superhighway.
District Attorney Randall Houston showed off his office's Web site
this week. The circuit includes Autauga, Chilton and Elmore counties.
"This is really a service thing, helping the public stay more informed
about their court system," Houston said. "We've put a lot of
thought into making the Web site, what links and services to offer. I
think it will be very useful to the public."
The site offers links to the Alabama Attorney General's Office, the
Department of Human Resources, Child Protect, Mothers Against Drunk
Driving, the FBI, the state sex offenders listing and chambers of commerce
in the circuit. An interactive section allows viewers to send e-mails to
Houston and offers information on the office's investigative unit,
victim's service office and child support information, among other topics.
The Web site sounds like a good idea to Kim Harris of Prattville.
"Just about everyone has a computer at home these days," she said. "Before
school was out, our seventh-grader was doing a project on the court
system. Having this Web site then would have been a big help."
The Web site also offers contact names and numbers of assistant district
attorneys working in Wetumpka, Prattville and Clanton. In the future, a
court calendar will be posted on the site. The calendar won't give cases
by name, but it will show when circuit and district court sessions are
scheduled at each of the three courthouses in the circuit.
"Like all Web sites, we have a frequently asked questions section, which
should handle the majority of questions people have," Houston said.
"We look forward to people calling any of our offices, but we aren't open
24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Web site will be available when
people need information."
