Authorities Make Arrest In Woman's 2005 Slaying -- December 31, 2008
Clifford Wynn, 45, has been arrested in connection with the 2005 death of Patricia Gayle Lasserre, a 53-year-old Autauga County resident, said Sheriff Herbie Johnson. Wynn was arrested in Selma and is now in the Autauga Metro Jail.

Turner Convicted In 2006 Shooting -- September 16, 2008
A 23-year-old Millbrook man was convicted Friday of a 2006 murder at the unlicensed Soul Palace nightclub in the Crenshaw community. An Elmore County jury deliberated an hour and a half before finding Michael Turner guilty in the murder of 35-year-old Demetrius Jackson. Jackson was shot in the upper torso during a fight outside the club.

Police Officer's Corruption Trial Set For Aug. 25 -- August 6, 2008
The state's public corruption case against Millbrook Police Department patrol officer Billy Brown, who also serves as coroner for neighboring Autauga County, is set to go before a jury this month. The case against the elected official stemmed from allegations by state auditors that Brown apparently misappropriated around $28,000 when he was a high-ranking official of the Autauga County Sheriff's Office.

An Elmore County Grand Jury indicted two men Thursday in connection with the Aug. 29, 2007 slaying of James Bryan Martin of Millbrook. The indictments charge Calvin McMillan of Opelika and RonDarrell Williams of Montgomery with one count each of capital murder in the commission of a robbery and one count each of capital murder in connection with vehicle theft.

A Montgomery man charged with capital murder in the same crime will be tried separately.

Man Gets 10 Years in Methadone Overdose -- July 30, 2008
An Elmore County man was sentenced last week to serve 10 years in prison for supplying the drugs that led to a fatal overdose by another man more than two years ago. Circuit Court Judge Ben Fuller passed sentence Tuesday on 20-year-old Matthew Scott King of Wetumpka after King entered guilty pleas to one count of unlawful distribution of drugs and one count of criminally negligent homicide in the July 10, 2006 death of William Smith.

Autopsy Confirms Identity of Slain Millbrook Woman -- July 24, 2008
Gloria Russell's body was located in the woods off Elmore County Road 3 in Deatsville about a quarter of a mile behind the J-F Ingram Technical College. Forensic scientists confirmed Russell's identity through fingerprints. The tip on the body's location came in from a confidential source.

An autopsy will be conducted today to determine if a body discovered late Tuesday afternoon is that of a woman missing and believed murdered. Millbrook police and forensic scientists received a tip and searched an area in Elmore County.

A Millbrook man is in the Elmore County Jail charged with a woman's murder, though police have yet to find her body. Michael Andrew Wright, 42, was charged Monday with the murder of 41-year-old Gloria Silas Russell.

The attorney for a Prattville man facing three counts of murder and three counts of manslaughter in a fatal wreck in August 2006 wants to delay the trial set for next week. Charles F. Benton Jr. was indicted by a grand jury after the accident that killed Sgt. Micah Burks, an Autauga County deputy, along with Benton's wife, Teresa, and Joshua Driver, his step-grandson.

District Attorney's 'Refuse and Lose' DUI Campaign a Success -- June 4, 2008
District Attorney Randall Houston announced last week that the 11-day "Refuse and Lose" initiative was a success. Two women charged with promoting prostitution through Web site -- March 28, 2008
Two women are accused of offering their escort services through a Web site that lists rates and a review section from customers, police said. Officers arrested Ashley Lynn Whitesell and Dawn Renee Williams, both 33, and both of Prattville, and charged them with promoting prostitution, said Police Chief Alfred Wadsworth. Customers could be next in line for arrest, he said.

Former Millbrook ABC officer pleads to sex abuse -- March 13, 2008
Anthony Isbell, 47, of 3081 Cobbs Ford Road in Millbrook, pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual abuse in the first degree on March 10 before Judge Sibley Reynolds. According to the plea, District Attorney Randall Houston is recommending that Isbell serve 10 years, but that is pending Reynolds' approval.

WETUMPKA -- To start a new year, the 19th Judicial Circuit officially has both a new chief investigator and a new senior assistant district attorney. District Attorney Randall Houston announced the two promotions Friday.
