Pat Varner, who was filling up his Ford F-150 on Tuesday at the PitStop convenience store in Marbury, said he just couldn't make sense of a grisly killing that took place Sunday morning nearby in Chilton County. Chilton County Sheriff's Office investigators said Steven Dorough was shot in the back of the head with a shotgun early Sunday morning, and then his body was set on fire.

District Attorney Randall Houston said he is satisfied with the plea agreements two Clanton men entered Monday in connection with a 2006 fatal shooting. Under the agreements, Christopher Iman Ulmer faces 15 years in prison when he is sentenced next month. Circuit Judge Ben Fuller sentenced Kowosky Tywan Christian on Monday to three years in prison.

A Prattville woman told an Autauga County jury Tuesday morning that a man followed her home from Wal-Mart three years ago, robbed her at knifepoint and then sexually assaulted her. Kenneth S. Traywick of Hackleburg is charged with robbery and sodomy in the case which occurred in June, 2006.

The appeal process will have to run its course before a Prattville woman is either released or tried for solicitation of murder for allegedly trying to hire a hit man to kill her ex-husband. Shana R. Cromwell of Cedar Ridge Road was arrested on the charge June 28, 2007, and indicted Nov. 14, 2007. Autauga County Circuit Judge Ben Fuller last year dismissed the charge, ruling that Cromwell had renounced her intention to have Michael Flynn killed.
