Elmore County Circuit Judge Sibley Reynolds sentenced Jason Murphy on Monday to 35 years for the 2003 murder of businessman Ronnie Holman.

Murphy was convicted in October after two previous trials ended in hung juries.

The sentence includes time Murphy already has served. He has been in jail for close to seven years.

The attorney general’s office had pursued a capital murder charge against Murphy, but the jury found him guilty of the lesser charge of felony murder.

Murphy faced a minimum of 20 years and a minimum of 99 years in prison on that charge.

Murphy’s brother, Jared, will go on trial in September in connection with the same killing.
