Montgomery Advertiser PRATTVILLE -- A 64-year-old Autauga County man faces 20 sex charges and is being held on bonds totaling $1 million, records show. Oscar Lee Wingo of 315 Autauga County 68 in Deatsville faces 20 counts of first-degree sodomy, said Chief Deputy Joe Sedinger of the Autauga County Sheriff's Office. The alleged abuse stretches back at least 20 years, Sedinger added.
One of Wingo's alleged victims is now an adult, and the other is a juvenile, Sedinger said. "This is an extremely delicate case," Sheriff Herbie Johnson said. The investigation continues and authorities believe there are more victims, Johnson said. The investigation began following a tip about the incidents, he said. District Attorney Randall Houston said the time that has elapsed since the alleged abuse started won't make a difference when the cases come to court. "There is no statute of limitations on rape or sodomy charges when the victims are juveniles," he said. "It's important that the law allows these victims to get out from under the abusive situation and still have the opportunity to report what happened to the proper authorities." Sedinger applauded Deputy Sean Brosius and Capt. Jim Steele for their work on the case. The sheriff's office also was assisted by the Alabama Department of Human Resources, Child Protect Services, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and Alabama Power Co.'s Security Division. Wingo was picked up Wednesday at the Wilsonville Steam Plant in Shelby County, police reports state. Pat Wylie, a spokesman for the utility company, said Wingo was employed by a private contractor doing work at the plant. |
