EXPERIENCE

District Attorney, 19th Judicial Circuit, March 14, 2001

Chief Assistant District Attorney, Appointed Chief Assistant District Attorney September 1996- March, 2001. Supervised attorney’s and cases prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Office for the 19th Judicial Circuit.

Director, Central Alabama Drug Task Force, January 1993-September 1996. Prosecuted all drug cases in the 19th Circuit and supervised the operation of the Central Alabama Drug Task Force.

Assistant Attorney General, August 1990-December 1992, assigned as prosecutor for the Medicaid Fraud Unit. Prosecuted Medicaid fraud cases in the Circuit and District courts throughout the state of Alabama.

Assistant District Attorney, April 1987-August 1990. Assistant District Attorney assigned to Elmore County, Alabama. Prosecuted all cases in District Court, Juvenile Court, and assisted in the prosecution of felony cases in Elmore, Autauga, and Chilton Counties.

Law Clerk, August 1984-April 1987. Judge John M. Patterson, Court of Criminal Appeals, Researched and wrote memorandums on various aspects of criminal law raised on appeal. Reviewed appellant briefs and records for recommended decisions. Administration skills and knowledge of appellant procedures required in job performance.

Intern, 1983, University of Alabama School of Law, Clinical Program. Responsible for prosecuting cases in Tuscaloosa County District Court for the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s Office under the supervision of licensed attorneys pursuant to the Alabama Third Year Practice Act. Responsibilities included interviewing witnesses, research, preparation for trial, assisting at trial and the actual prosecution of traffic and misdemeanor offenses.

Clerk, May-August 1983. Law Office of Hornsby & Schmitt, P.C. Researched and wrote memorandums and briefs. Assisted attorneys in trial preparation, investigation, client interviews, property inspections and witness preparation. Drafted summons and complaints, interrogatories, and discovery motions.

Intern, Alabama Capital Intern Program, January-May 1981. Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Joe McCorquodale. Required working knowledge of the state legislative process, monitored progress of bills, maintained and compiled information files on various bills, aided in scheduling and general office duties.
